Traffic Management arrangements and diversions on Leith Walk between London Road and Pilrig Street from 20 - 1 April 2023

To carry out remedial and lining works on the carriageway and tram track, temporary traffic management arrangements will be installed on Leith Walk  w/c 20 March 2023 and w/c 27 March 2023.

Road restrictions will be in place to allow these works to take place.

Access off all major junctions on to Leith Walk will be maintained and pedestrian crossing points will remain operational at all times and emergency access will be maintained. 

The sequence of the temporary traffic management arrangements required are as follows:

Sequence 1: 

Date: 20 March 2023 to 22 March 2023 (3-days / nights)

Location: Union Street to Pilrig Street (west side works)

Leith Walk will close to north bound traffic between London Road and Pilrig Street. Southbound traffic the length of Leith Walk will operate as usual and vehicles can access Pilrig Street, McDonald Road and Annandale Street via a right hand turn

Traffic will still be able to exit London Road and turn left city bound From Annandale Street, McDonald Road and Pilrig Street vehicles will be able to turn right right heading towards the city centre.

Access from Picardy Place to London Road will be maintained, however, the carriage way will be reduced to one lane of traffic. The Picardy Place turnback will also remain operational.

Localised access to the Shrubhill housing development will be maintained via McDonald Road.

Parking and loading provision in this section will be maintained on the east side of the street. In addition, temporary loading bays on the track slab will be available.  

Main Diversions: Broughton Street, Canonmills, Broughton Road, Pilrig Street.

On completion of these works, London Road to Pilrig Street will re-open to north bound traffic.

Sequence 2

Date: 23 March 2023 to 25 March 2023 (3-days / nights)

Location: Pilrig Street to London Road (east side works)

Leith Walk will close to south bound traffic between Pilrig Street and London Road.  North bound traffic the length of Leith Walk will operate as usual.

Main Diversions: Pilrig Street, Broughton Road, Canonmills, Broughton Street.

Parking and loading will be maintained on the west side of the street. In addition, temporary loading bays on the track slab will be available. 

On completion of these works, Pilrig Street to London Road will re-open to south bound traffic, resulting in two-way traffic from London Road – Pilrig Street being fully reinstated.

Sequence 3

Date: 27 March 2023 to 29 March 2023 (3-days / nights)

Location: Pilrig Street to Foot of The Walk (west side works)

Leith Walk will close to north bound traffic between Pilrig Street and Foot of The Walk. South bound traffic the length of Leith Walk will operate as usual.

Localised access to Balfour Street will be via Arthur Street.

Localised access to Springfield / Steads Place will be maintained via temporary ramps over the central reservation.

Localised access to Casselbank Street will be via Kirk Street.

Parking and loading will be maintained on the east side of the street.  

Main Diversions: Pilrig Street, Bonnington Road, Great Junction Street.

Once these works are completed, the northbound section between Pilrig Street and Foot of the Walk will re-open to traffic. 

Sequence 4

Date: 30 March 2023 to 1 April 2023 (3-3ays / nights)

Location: Foot of The Walk to Pilrig Street (east side works)

Leith Walk will be closed to south bound traffic between Foot of the Walk and Pilrig Street.. North bound traffic the length of Leith Walk will operate as usual.

Localised access to Crown Street will be maintained.

The junctions of Crown Place, Manderston Street, Lorne Street and Dalmeny Street with Leith Walk will be temporarily closed.

Access to Manderston Street, Lorne Street and Dalmeny Street will be via Easter Road.

Localised access will be maintained to properties on Jameson Place via Balfour Street.
