ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½

Future ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½

We are shaping our city for future generations

ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ is one of the best cities in the world in which to live, work and study. Like other cities, we are feeling the impacts of

  • climate change
  • poverty and health inequalities in our communities
  • demand for new homes
  • traffic congestion
  • poor air quality in some areas.

ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ has well-used public transport and some very walkable areas, including the city centre and local high streets. But, as set out in our City Mobility Plan 2030, we are facing a rapidly growing population and unsustainable levels of private car use which is increasing demand on our limited street space.

We have an ambitious 2030 target to lower the number of kilometres travelled by car in ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ by 30%. ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ also aims to achieve Net Zero status by 2030.

As our city grows, we need to change how people, goods and services move into and around ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ that benefits everyone, and we have the plans in place to do this.
