Forecasting and telemetry data
We access advanced weather forecasting, reservoir telemetry and data from over 15 river gauges around the city. We have regular contact with
- SEPA
- our Resilience team
- Police Scotland
- local stakeholders such as the Scottish Rugby Union at Murrayfield.
All members of the flood standby team receive text message alerts for
- SEPA flood alerts and warnings
- reservoir telemetry, including rainfall alerts
- river level alerts.
Early triggers like ‘monitor flows’ and ‘be prepared’ are followed by action triggers like ‘initiate gate closing sequence’ and ‘clear grille’ as water levels rise.
We also have manual marker boards at key river location if telemetry systems fail.
